Mules are special. They’ve got a personality that’s a bit different from your average horse. They’re loyal, sturdy, and have a knack for getting you through the toughest of terrains.

Saddles Tailored for Mules: Where Comfort Meets Adventure
In 2003 Len invented a weight distributing system in a Saddle-pad.
It was later patented and has been improving the performance of horses
throughout the equine industry. We’re all about mules, mule riding, and the folks who live and breathe this unique way of life. We’ve got one thing figured out – mules are more than just animals; they’re our companions, our partners, and our adventure buddies.

Crafting Saddle Perfection: Len Brown’s Approach
Len Brown’s approach to saddle design is simple yet profound: “I design my tree by riding the type of animal it is to be used on. If the tree doesn’t work, why bother building a saddle on it? THE TREE IS THE SADDLE.”
These words reflect the heart of our mission at The Mule Underground. We understand that a saddle is more than just a piece of equipment; it’s a crucial part of your mule’s comfort and well-being. Len’s commitment to perfection is evident in every saddle we craft.
WHY LEN’S MULE BARS MATTER?
Mule bars are the saddle & have to accept a back that starts straight and
rounds to carry you when riding. Making Tree bars to accept this change in shape was a challenge in geometry implemented by hours upon hours of pattern work and use in between on many different Mules. A variety of Forks & Cantles can be used on these bars provide the models
of saddles to meet Rider’s needs.
This Geometry then allows you to use the finished saddle from animal to animal with great results. If the saddle is made short enough it is more versatile and can be used thru the years on many different Mules. I spend extra time & money building trees that will justify you spending extra dollars on one saddle.
You can now stop playing Musical Saddles, buying one after another with mostly negative results.

Important note:
A Horse saddle doesn’t work on Mule but my Mule Saddles
can be used on a horse with great results. As I’ve always said ” You can build a saddle too straight for Mule or Horse”.

The Mule Dilemma: White Hair and Saddle Discomfort
Mules, those resilient and strong-willed companions, face their unique set of challenges when it comes to saddles. One of the most common issues is the appearance of white hair on their backs. While it may seem like a minor cosmetic concern, it’s often a clear indicator of a more significant problem.
Why Does White Hair Occur?
The appearance of white hair is a telltale sign that the mule’s saddle is not fitting properly. It happens when the saddle rocks off the center, causing undue friction and pressure on the mule’s back. This rocking motion can lead to blisters and sores, causing not only discomfort but also potential long-term issues for your beloved mule.
